About Eric Wandrey

Lux umbra Dei – “Light is the shadow of God.” God reveals Himself to us through the beauty of this world and the people who surround us. This blog is about the experiences of God’s beauty that I have had in my life.

I am a writer, a philosopher, and a Christian. Since the age of 15, I have been passionately pursuing the Lord and seeking to follow Him. My pursuit of Him has been an exciting journey that initially led me to join a Catholic religious order with the desire of becoming a priest. For most of my 20’s, I lived a semi-monastic lifestyle of poverty, chastity, and obedience, as I sought to live the Gospel in a radical way. During this season in my life, I studied, I did ministry, and I prayed. I stayed in long enough to earn a master’s degree in philosophy, but I eventually discerned out of the path to the priesthood. I knew that God was calling me to spread His Gospel in a special way, but not as a priest.

My passion to spread the Gospel remains the same, but over the past three years since I left seminary, I have been leaving room for God to lead me as I try to discern how He is calling me to serve Him as a layperson. There is still a lot to figure out, but I’m in no rush. One thing is clear at least: He is calling me to pursue my passion for writing and to use this talent to communicate His love to others. I am excited to see what He has in store for me.

  1. This is great! Thanks so much for sharing, as St. Dominic would say, the “fruits of your contemplation” with the world. May you always contemplate Christ and give to us the fruits of your contemplation: yourself, transubstantiated into His Image, through the gift of your priesthood.

    God bless! 🙂

  2. Inspired thoughts Eric. We are praying here in Windham for all the men of the Legion and hope to have you back here with us someday.

  3. Hello Fr. Eric, thanks for following my blog! We seem to share a love for Beauty. I’m a Catholic (raised in a mixed Catholic-Anglican environment) but my blogs are for a wide audience. I also contribute to a theologically denser project run by research students at a Scottish university. Do check it out! http://www.transpositions.co.uk/
Here’s a recent article of mine on Romano Guardini:
